Common Problems in the Month of May

Every year is different, depending upon the weather. This year, 2021, the queens appear to be earlier than other years. I actually saw several queens coming out of hibernation in April. I often get some calls in late April/early May from people who have lethargic queens lumbering along on the floor of their house. Usually, the queens are from the Polistes family… like brown wasps and the yellow and black striped wasps called P dominula.

If you encounter a wasp crawling something at this time of year, there is no need to panic. It is just a queen that hibernated in your house from last year. This is very common. It doesn’t mean you have a nest in your house or anything like that.

What to do if you happen across a queen? People have different thresholds of tolerance. The best is to scoop her up on a piece of paper and put her outside. If are terrified, you can spray soapy water on her and that will kill her fairly quick. There is no need to call an exterminator or spray poisons on her. Soap works great. I like organic soap, but Windex will do the trick.

I have been developing all-natural techniques to deal with stinging insects for many years.

You can get more detail about how to deal with stinging insects without poisons, pesticides, or chemicals in my new ebook coming out soon The YellowJacket Expert Reveals his All-Natural Secrets to Stinging Pest Control.
